No option for POP3 account type

Attempting to configure multiple POP3 email accounts in Outlook 2007, however
the option for a POP3 account type is missing. The only option listed is
IMAP. I have tried deleting and re-adding a Mail Profile but still no luck.
Can't seem to find this issue listed anywhere else. I am unable to
auto-configure the account as Outlook cannot find my personal domain server
settings automatically.

I have also attempted to create a Gmail account (which supports both POP3
and IMAP) automatically, and it auto-chooses the IMAP option.

I'm stuck in quicksand on this one. Any help would be most appreciated.

This limitation can be set by your corporate admin as a policy. Contact
him/her to verify this.

Thanks for the reply. However this is not a corporate computer.

Here is the solution:

Go to registry editor
HKEY Current User
Software
Microsoft
Office
12.0
Outlook
Options (single click)
Change the value of Disable POP3 (or whichever account type is disabled)
from 0 to 1

This will enable the disabled account type.

I'd want to know why it was disabled - it should be enabled on all retail
installations. That key would only be present if an admin disabled it.

I have the complementary problem: Using outlook 2007, under server type, I
have only POP3, and the pulldown is disabled. This is not a corporate
account and there are no policies. However, when I regedit HKCU | software |
microsoft | office | 12.0 | outlook | options there is no such registry key
or value with IMAP, POP3 or anything else disabled! How can I get IMAP as a
server type enabled?

I experienced the very same problem, but the tip with editing the registry
did the trick.

In my case, I suspect the following root cause:

When I set up Office 2003 on my home computer I took all the Office settings
from my work computer via the 'Save My Settings' wizard to save me the hassle
of customizing all my Office settings.

At work, POP3 and HTTP mail are disabled (we are using Exchange Server). My
suspicion is that this setting got copied over as well and disabled the POP3
option on my home computer.

Just a thought.

What Microsoft recommends? Should I delete Outlook 2007 and move my stuff
to other mail software???
