I have a Dell Dimension 4600 and have no sound.

In device manager, there is a problem with sm bus controller. I try to
update driver and get this message: Error occurred during installation of
this file. The driver installation file for this device is missing a
necessary entry. This may be because the inf was written for Windows 95 or
later. Contact hardware vendor.

I've gone on Dell Website and updated drivers.

It was suggested that I reinstall Intel chipset drivers. I ran a utility
and the results are it failed to identify chipset- controller failed to
identify your ICH. Integrated graphics not detected or disabled.

It was also suggested I search inf files. I did that an found over 2000 inf
files! What are all these files and what do I do from here?

Please advise,
Laurie
