I have a small network connected to a 100Mbps switch which is served by a
Windows 2000 server. I have a Samsung 6060N printer with a built-in network
port. Everything works fine. However, when I install a new ADSL router
(Netgear 814) and Firewall (SoHo Firebox) everything still works okay except
for the printer. I can log on to the network, browse the internet and do
everything I could before but the printer refuses to work through its
network port. If I plug the printer into a normal PC via its parallel port
and share it then I can print to it again. I would like to go back to using
the printers own network port though.

The printer came with some network detection software which refuses to 'see'
the printer after the router has been installed even if I type in its MAC
address directly.

Why does my network printer stop working after installing an ADSL router and
firewall? My ADSL router is acting as the DHCP server in this network and
everything is set to default. Would it be better if my Windows 2000 Server
acted as the DHCP server?

What is the ip address assigned to the printer? Can you ping it?
See if the printer port can be configured to match your linkspeed on the
router's ports.
