New XP patch deactivated Norton AV?

my computer runs XP-Pro. this evening i noticed there was a new security
update on their web and installed it. Now NAV 2004 claims it has to be
reactivated... I am supposed to enter the products serial number. I am not
sure i have it. Other than hassling with Symantec is there some way to deal
with this? Whether the update is strictly related to the problem I am having
with NAV is a matter of speculation. What I do know is that it happened
right away after reboot.

Are you sure the problem is a serial number, or isn't it rather a
missing certificate?

Use the link given on the last site. This is an ugly workaround, and the
real solution will probably be a visit to Verisign to download a new
certificate. As I don't use the Internet Explorer nor Symantec products,
I can't exactly tell how to resolve the issue.

Ah, Information. A good, too valuable these days, to give it away, just
so, at no cost.

Hi. Gabriele, thanks for the reply. I also found something about this on
Symantec's web just now. Their solution is ugly, too, I will check the links
you suggested.
See my post just now: NAV deactivated. do i need an av program??
