Recently I did a clean install of W2K on two machines. On one machine I
created my users very early, before even installing SP4 and other updates. I
tested these accounts and they did work (and they still work). On the other
machine I created users only after SP4 and all updates (and other software)
has been installed.
When these users try to log in for the first time, they get an error message
that some template file cannot be copied from ".../All Users/..." to their
own user directory, and they are sent back to the login screen. Now I tried
to create a new user on the first machine (where it once worked) and I'm
facing the same problems.
I tried to create the user directories and copy files from my admin account,
but the users still cannot log in. Now the system tries to create a user
directory named <UserName>.<MachineName>.
Finally I added new users to the admin group. Then log-in still displayed
one error, but the user successfully loged in. And after removing the users
from the admin group again, they still can log-in. But there must be some
better way to create a new, non-admin user.
Is that a known problem with one of the recent updates, or did I something
wrong?
Both machines run Win2000 Pro/SP4 and automatic Updates are enabled and
working, and IE6SP1. The only other programms common to both machines are
ZoneAlarm Anti Virus, Nero Express 6 and Nero Burn Rights, just if that
matters.
TIA
