I'm going to install a new motherboard later today. All other hardware will
remain the same. What should I expect on starting the system for the first
time.
Will I get away with simply inserting the Vista DVD and doing a repair?
Will there be any re-activation issues?

Help would be appreciated

Vista repair is not the same as that in WinXP. Take a look at this site for
details on the various Vista install options:

Thanks - but it doesn't really answer my original question. Of course all
the hardware on the new mobo will be different. So will Vista still boot and
then simply recognise new hardware then install drivers as appropriate or
will my system just fail to boot.?

Is your copy of vista a retail copy or upgrade, if it's a retail copy you
will not av'e any problems, you will av'e to do a re-activation, because
your hardware as changed, hope this helps.

At the least, you will have to install the Vista version of the motherboard
drivers. If onboard sound you will have to install the sound drivers. If
onboard video you will have to install the video drivers. You will have to
reboot a few times (likely) and reactivate your operating system - maybe by
a phone call.

At the worst, you will have to reinstall Vista and the above drivers, along
with any others you need for your external equipment. You will again have to
make that phone call.

It's a full retail copy of ultimate.

cool - so I should just install the motherboard and switch on and no
problems? Ha ha - I'll believe it when I see it!

It's a TECHNET version of Vista which is supposed to allow 10 activations
but a phone call should be no major hassle. Hope they're open after hours
though!

DONT DO IT. i made this mistake and after thousands of dollars in new
hardware, hours putting it together, and around 8 hours on the phone i am
switching to linux. BEWARE OF HARDWARE UPGRADES.
