The backlight on my Thinkpad went bad, so I've just purchased a new HP
Pavilion. I've managed to pull over most of my files from the old system,
including my e-mail and contacts in Outlook. The calendar, however, showed
up as a separate one (the main one was blank) and I couldn't figure out how
to delete the main one and replace it with the "old" one. After getting the
mail and contact files straight, I must've somehow deleted the "old" one, as
the only calendar now in my Outlook is blank. Is there a way to pull JUST
the calendar portion of the .pst file over to the new computer or will I need
to start over?

All depends on which method of migrating you used.
In general all you need to do is copy the previous pst-file, open it in
Outlook and set it as the default delivery location.

I've pulled the old one back over from the previous .pst file, but now I'm
back to having 2 calendars. Is there a way to copy the contents of the old
one to the blank one and delete the old one?

All of Outlook's folders (under one root) are in the SAME file. The old
Calendar is in the same file as the old Contacts, the old Inbox, the old
Tasks, etc. If you want to transfer the contents of the old Calendar to the
new one, open the old calendar, switch to a table view like By Category,
select all the items with Ctrl-A, then either right-click and drag the
selection to the new Calendar or click Edit>Copy to Folder, specifying the
new Calendar as the destination.

May I jump onto this thread...I have the same problem, but am having
different details of transfer...

Here's the scenario: Outlook 2002, Vista Home Prem; same as other--need to
move the calendar and contacts data from one household laptop to another. I
started with the calendar and attempted the move by exporting the calendar
folder as a pst on computer 1 and importing that pst into computer 2. It
sort of worked, except that all recurring appts imported as an hour earlier
than should be. Other ones appear to be at right time.

How can I delete all this calendar (years worth of stuff in there) and get
everything (cal+contacts) into the second machine correctly. BTW, I cannot
find a pst file (via search) on either machine other than the file I was
exporting/importing.

You should NEVER use export/import when moving data between Outlook
instances. Just transport the PST. See this:

The time issue is probably the result of a mismatch in the DST rules between
the two PCs.

PSTs are normally in a hidden folder. Enable viewing hidden files and
folder in order to see them or open Windows Explorer and enter
%LocalAppData%\Microsoft\Outlook into the Address field and click Go.

Keep in mind as well that Outlook 2002 is not compatible with Vista.

I eventually found the pst file on the old computer (in
C:\Users\Bob\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\) and was able to move it. You
were right; the Vista search has to be done just right, or you miss things!
Not easy or automatic.

On to your quote above...I am very surprised at this. In what specifics is
it incompatible? I have been running it on the old laptop (Vista Home
Premium) for two years without problems in any of the apps (though don't use
Access much)! And it installed and is running without problem on the new one
(same OS). So I am not understanding the incompatibility????? Ummm..this is
straying from the topic though.

If it is working, you're lucky. Most people find that they get prompted
over and over again for their account password, for one thing. A quick
Google of this newsgroup will find many other references.

Ah, account password....that may be it--why I don't have the problems. I
don't use the email part of Outlook--only the calendar. I use Thunderbird
for email client. I think I had to put in an account to get it to install,
but then just deleted the account first thing after install.
