network printer problem

I have a small Microsoft workgroup consisting of 3 computers.
All computers are XP Pro.
I have a Linksys 8 port router that all PCs and printer are connected to via wallplates and a punch down block.
The IP addresses the computers are in the 192.168.1.100 to 192.168.1.149 DHCP range.
The printer's (Panasonic 1810F network printer) static IP address is 192.168.1.5.
The subnet mask for all is 255.255.255.0.
All PCs can see each other n Network Paces and we can share files and ping each other.
We have NIS installed on all PCs but the problem I have exists even with NIS disabled.

Here's my problem:

I can NOT ping the printer when it is connected to the router.

If I connect directly to the printer via a crossover cable, I can ping it and print to it.

As a test, I disconnected the printer from it's wallplate. Then I bypassed all the cabling and plugged the printer's cable (actually a different, longer cable) directly into the back of the router. I get green lights on this port on the router and green lights on the printer's network card. Having bypassed the original printer CAT5 cable, the wall plate, the punch down block, the cable going from the punch down block to the router, I still can't ping the printer. I get "request timed out".

I had the Panasonic Tech come in and test the setup. He said that since he can plug a cable directly from his PC to the printer's network card and he can ping and print, the printer is fine. This makes sense to me.

So, I called Linksys for some help. We rechecked what I did above. Basically, they said that since all my PCs can talk to each other that the router is fine.

As you can see, I need some help. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi Cari,

I did check out the the article and I had already done the steps recommended by Bruce.

Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

In the interim, I'll look and see what else Bruce's page has to offer.
