network and passwords

We run a network with 4 different workgroups and each
workgroup has 10 or more computers in them. Some of these
computers are using windows 98 others are using xp and
2000. I'm using xp and when I goto another workgroup over
the network there is a problem getting into folders with
passwords. When the password is typed in it does not
work. Folders without passwords can be opened.
How can this be fixed?
