Is there a Windows XP equivalent to Win98's Netwatcher?
How can I tell if another user on the network has files
open on my computer? Thanks.

I have the same basic question on this one. It appears
that NetWatcher (netwatch.exe) was available through
Win2000, but it is nowhere to be found on WinXP. Help.

Thanks!

1. Right click My Computer.
2. Click Manage.
3. Double click Shared Folders.
4. Double click Shares, Sessions, or Open Files.

Steve,

Many thanks!!! Works quite nicely. I didn't see a way to create a
shortcut to the information like netwatch.exe (suggestions?), but the
info I need is there.

Thanks again,

Bill

You're welcome, Bill.

Make a shortcut to "C:\Windows\System32\Compmgmt.msc".

Is there any way to have the C:\Windows\System32\Compmgmt.msc shortcut also go directly to the specific point of interest? It would be great if I could have shortcuts to load at boot time that would automatically open one window at System Tools/Shared Folders/Open Files and another at System Tools/Shared Folders/Sessions to cut down any needed documentation I need to stick to the front of machine acting as a P2P file server.

It currently runs Win 98SE and opens Netwatcher whenever rebooted for any reason. I will be replacing the 98SE machine with an Xp machine. With 98SE documenting Netwatcher use by non-technies for taking care of locked files was trivial. Doing the same for Xp and compmgmt.msc is another matter.
