Hi... I have a "net use" problem that I can't figure out.
An application requires the use of a network share, but not a mapped drive.
The network share is on a box that is outside of the corporate network, but
through the firewall, it can be accessed via UNC. However, the share seems
to disconnect once a while, thus making the application spew out errors
that there is something wrong with the Microsoft Jet Engine Database.
What I have done, is to use the registry on the server, to modify the
timeout to be 65535, instead of the default 15 minutes with the
Autodisconnect value under HKLM\system\CurrentControlSet\Services
\lanmanserver\parameters
However, it seems the shares are still timing out. The way I am mapping
the shares is to use a batch file and the batch file is run as the users
are logged in. Not a real login script, only a shortcut that runs in these
people's StartUp folder.
The content of ths file is like this:
net use \\server\share password /user:genuser
It's not very secure, but since this box is not in the domain and this is
the only way I can think of so that I can get the shares accessible from
users' workstations.
The only problem is, the shares are timing out even after the registry
change. Does anyone have an idea how to get around this?
Thanks,
Chris.
