Nero with XP question?

I am using Nero InCD (OEM version from Hypersonic) on a Samsung Combo
drive. I'm using properly formatted CDRW discs as Nero directs them
formatted before use. My sole use of the drive is to back up data and an
occasional program. To do this, I'm using a copy/paste format instead of
the "send to" format. Everything works perfectly except one thing I
can't quite get a handle on.
When I create a new folder on the CDRW disc, nothing appears. If I close
the disc and reopen it again, the folder is there. Say I want to create
a new folder in a folder called "stuff". "Stuff" and all the other
folders are showing on the main disc as I open it. Now I click on
"stuff". It opens just fine, displaying what's inside. Now I right click
and hit "new folder". The new folder shows with the proper text block
next to it for the name. I name the new folder something and hit the
enter key. Nothing! If I then use the back arrow to back out of the
"stuff" folder and back to the main disc....and THEN reopen the "stuff"
folder, the new folder is then visible normally. I can add to it, and
use it normally after that and it always appears. Just that first time
setting it up has the "issue".
Can anyone tell me if this is normal, and if it isn't, how to correct
it?
Many thanks,
Dudley

First, regardless of being an OEM version, are you sure it is a version
compatible with XP, have you checked Nero's website in that regard as well
as checking for any appropriate updates.

Second, while you may run into Nero users on this board, what you describe
is not normal but it's a Nero issue (it might simply be your version isn't
compatible with XP but it might be something else of which Nero users might
be more familiar) and you need to address this to a Nero group if you know
of one or try alt.binaries.cd where there are likely to be a lot of Nero
users; you can probably find them on Google.

My recommendation is to NOT use packet writing software like InCD. The
problem is that it is not compatible with other packet writing software. In
fact, once you write that CD with InCD, you won't be able to read it
anywhere else except where InCD is installed.

You have a few options, 1) Put your folders on your HD and then copy them to
the CD-R using multi-session. 2) Just erase the CD-RW and re-write it every
time. (That's what I do now for backing up data) If your HD is too small,
buy a cheap HD on eBay. I've got a 6Gb HD that will hold 12-20 CD's worth
of stuff and I bet I couldn't get $25 for it on eBay.

Using re-writables for data backup is a big NO-NO.

Personal opinion or solid fact? :-)
Reason I'm asking is that Nero, Roxio, and other seemingly reliable
sources seem to have no problem with it. In fact, aside from my little
glitch that I posted here about, I've had no trouble doing this for at
least 3 years. All back up is a solid as a rock as far as I can
determine.
I believe you might be making a case for back up on a CDR as opposed to
a CDRW but I would have no way of knowing that from the shortness of
your post :-) I have heard that the CDR is a more stable disc for backup
if you don't have to access the information to add to it. Any comment on
this?
BTW, I downloaded the latest update for InCD and it seems to have solved
the folder issue.

They're okay as a secondary backup. I use them in between my regular
backups for folders that change content often. Also use them for disposable
data - things I will be getting rid of soon but am not ready to let go of
at the moment.
