needing scanner information

I need to scan a LOT of papers that currently are in file folders, some
folded, some stapled, old papers. We are archiving and going to store
scanned documentation only.

I have tried an HP 5590 and the doc feeder just does not cut it. Not even
the replacement they sent.

Can you tell me a good one for use with imperfect documents - that will have
an ADF capable of handling imperfect originals?

Thanks!

Unfortunately, no ADF is going to be able to deal with folded or stapled
papers.

ADF do an OK job with paper in decent condition but they none are close to
perfect.

Also, a lot of your success will depend on the software used. If you are
actually referencing problems due to the accuracy of OCR (optical character
recognition), that is a "whole 'nother ballgame!"

'spose I should clarify.

No, the error has nothing to do with OCR. It has to do with the hatch not
being closed. We don't even have to do anything but click ok and we can
continue scanning. Or it says there is a jam and it hasn't even taken a
page in - again we don't have to do anything but say okay and start the scan
again.

Naturally the papers will be unfolded and unstapled. Actually I would say
that 'not perfectly smooth' with an occasional turned down corner would
cover the 'folded' issue. Not even attempting to do OCR>

Thanks

Hi Pat,

Just a couple questions..

1. What volume per day would you typically scan?
2. what's the dimensions of your largest document that you'd like to
scan? (legal? or double-letter?)
3. which application do you use for scanning? (if you already have one
implemented)

Thanks,

Danny
