Need help with wrong calendar entry time

When trying to add an entry i.e. set a reminder to begin at 3pm
(present time 1pm) I set the time and duration correctly (3pm time and
3:30 duration) and the reminder is set for 15 minutes before. When I
save and close it shows up as busy from present time (1pm) to 3pm.
