I'm new to video editing but know I have the abitility to do this editing.
What I want to know is, how to add a frame into an already created movie. The
frame I need to add is part of the movie I'm trying to edit. I want to copy a
frame of the original AVI video and add it several times into the original
AVI. I've tried, 1. making a clip, that didn't work. 2. dragging dropping the
frame I need to the story line. Of course that didn't work either. Any one
got an idea how I can do this?

My computer specs are enough I can do this.
AMD 2400+
1024 GB RAM
200GB harddrive
256mb Geforce FX5500
Directx 9.0c
and Windows XP Pro SP2

Hi there oldgramma....here is what you can try.
Play your clip in the preview screen and pause it at the frame you want to
get and later insert into your video. Below the preview screen, to the far
right, is a circular tool that will 'take picture'. Click on that, and save
the jpg that is made to a folder of your choice......but now this 'jpeg
picture' can also be found in your collections to the left of the preview
screen. It will be named with an '0001' as a suffix.

Now go to the point in your video where you would like to insert this picture.
Click above the timeline until you find the right spot where you want it.
Now, go to the top of your screen and click on 'CLIP' and then 'SPLIT' and
your
movie will be split at that point. Go up to the collections pane and
click on the picture you made and drag it down to the timeline; dropping it
in between the two parts of your video. And TA DA, your picture will be in
the video. You don't need
to add the picture (you called it frame) several times as you mentioned.
Just click on it, grab either end of it, and make it the length you want it
to be.

This will take a photo, or a moving portion of the movie? I need it to move
with the video. In other words, it needs to be a small clip and part of the
movie itself. As far as I know, jpg's are not animated.

You originally stated "One Frame"...

Guess what...a movie is a collection of
still shots "Frames". If you choose "One"
....it will not...can not...be animated.

You stated that making a clip did not work...
could you elaborate on that? Are you aware
that you can drag as many copies of the
movie you want onto the timeline...split it
anywhere you like and delete the unwanted
portions? (right click / delete)

Also...Could you explain in more detail...
exactly what you are trying to accomplish?

Okay, I've found some things out since posting this question. First, my use
of frame was the wrong thing to say, I should have said "clip". Next I've
found that I can indeed do what I want with WMM by splitting out the part I
want and adding to the part of the timeline......or so they tell me over at
videohelp.com. But the way they explained how to do this was complicated and
I'm not sure I understood what they said to do. Quoted below:

All you have to do is select your clip so that it appears in the
preview window. Move your timeslider to where you want to insert yopur first
clip, and press ctrl+shift+s (split) to break your main clip at the point.
Continue along to the next point you want to insert a clip, and split again.
Keep doing this until you have all the sections you need. Now reassemble them
on the timeline with the short insert clip inbetween each piece.

The instructions are accurate...what do
you not understand? Don't be afraid to
experiment.

This is easier to do than it is to explain
but I'll give it a try...maybe some of the
more experienced users will offer some
ideas also.

You have to create your clip by splitting
the original and removing the unwanted
portions. Also you have to split your project
in the positions where you wish to insert
the clip.

If you drag the slider (just below the View
screen)...you will notice a vertical line on
the Video Track following you...the split
will occur on that line when you type...
ctrl+shift+s...or left click the Split button
just below the View screen. Also you
could play the video and pause it when
you reach the point where you wish to
split it.

So...create the clip you need by dragging
the slider to find the correct frame and
splitting where you wish it to begin and end.
Then delete the unwanted portions. (right
click/delete). Now right click the clip and
choose Copy. (Also you may want to save
the clip.)

Now...drag your project to the time line
and make the splits where you wish to
insert the clip. If you make a split and right
click the timeline you can insert the clip
by choosing Paste. Or if you saved the
clip and imported it into your collections
you can just Drag it to the timeline as
many times as you need it.

That is a perfectly fine explanation John. Oldgramma follow John's
instructions...they are similar to mine except you need to 'grab' a clip and
not a picture. In general, if you split your video whereever you want to
insert your clip....then you can split the part you want 'as your clip' to
insert....right click on it to copy, then paste it and drag the resulting
clip into a split. Then do it again until you are done. Good luck.

As John said....experiment experiment...if you have your original files and
a project saved you can't hurt a thing. Have fun

Sorry I didn't get back here sooner, I've been swamped at work. Thanks for

Well, I tried splitting the movie in parts, but, I guess I'm just a dummy
when it comes to video editing because even though I split it, when I got
done, there was only one clip showing in the story board, the last one I
split. Oh and that's another thing, when doing to split where do they go? How
do I save each clip I split? I know they are showing up in the Story Board as
I saw them in there. Am I supposed to save from there?
