When I go to boot my computer I don't hear the POST beep
and the system does not load. I end up with a blank
screen and I reboot again. After about 5 reboots I then
hear the POST beep and I get an operating system
loading. Why is this? I am thinking of changing my C:\
for a new harddrive. I have currently 2 harddrives in my
system at the moment. My c: holds my OS and Program
files and my D: holds my music and videos. If I were to
put a new hardrive (C in how will I do it so I don't
lose all my Program files etc on the existing C:
Alternatively what could be the problem in regards to my
OS not loading. Please help me on this.

If you are not getting you POST beep, you are probably not getting
anywhere near your hard drive. My first guess is that the CMOS battery
might need replacing.

The problem is occurring before Windows starts to load. This is a hardware
or hardware configuration problem. If the system is set to show the results
of POST (Power On Self Test) on the monitor, is there any mention of
something wrong? Or if no error message, can you see where POST is
stopping? Were any changes made recently to the system? If experimenting
with settings in BIOS, revert those back to default values.

POST stands for Power On Self Test. If the system is powering up then you
have a hardware problem occurring long before your hard drive is being
accessed. You may need to have the system checked by a tech. If you know
your way around the inside of the box you might check to ensure that
everything is properly seated. Vibrations can occasionally cause loose
connections. If the problem persists have the system looked at.

I have the same problem. If the CMOS battery is gone, wouldn't my clock be
wrong. I always thought that was the indicator for a dead battery.

When I boot up, the monitor doesn't even come on when the POST fails to
execute. At first I thought it was a problem with my Video card, but seeing
this thread has me looking elsewhere.

Please post any other suggestions/solutions as I am watching like a hawk.

Pull all your unneeded cards(network, sound) leave your video for obvious
reasons.
Leave a stick of known " good " RAM.
Shut off ALL power and clear CMOS.
What Mobo do you have anyway?

Get down to the basics and see what happens from there.

Hi,

This is not a software problem. This is a hardware problem. Looking at the
symptoms I believe it is not a hard disk problem, but with motherboard. I
would suggest take your computer to a computer technician.

It is difficult to judge hardware problems. If you have 2 hard disks it is
fine, shouldn't make any difference.
