I have Windows XP Home Edition SP1 operating system. I can run Musicmatch
Jukebox 10.0 fine (with on-demand, radio, and plus options fine as well).

When I install Musicmatch 10.0, I get no error messages. However, when I
start the program, I just get a "splash" screen for 1 sec, as if it is
starting, but then it disappears and the program never starts. I like the
program and am trying to get it to work.

I contacted Musicmatch support. After 2 weeks they send me a "canned"
response about re-installing the program. However, when I email them back
and tell them that their instructions did not correct the problem, I never
hear back from them. They have the worst 'tech support" ever. They cannot
be contacted by phone. This has been going on since January 2005.

Can anyone out there, give me a clue as to what to do. I could use any
suggestions that would help successfully install Musicmatch Jukebox 10.0.

In case you don't know this... it takes a VERY long time, for MMJB 10.0 to load,
but If you aren't getting past the splash screen that's not the problem.

Are you saying you installed a separate version of 10.0 MMJB? OR you upgraded
your 9.0 version to 10.0 and it didn't work, when it had worked before?

It sounds like you have an installation problem, however you did it, even though
you got no messages to tell you so. :\

Can you remove all traces of MusicMatch [search for everything on your system
and clear it]... whatever you have, and just install 10.0 again? Or do you have
music files you don't want to lose... on version 9.0?

I agree about the customer support, it's pathetic. I let them know their link
to MS to cure an XML problem in MMJB 10, was out of date, and non functioning.
Gave them a lengthy description of my problem, and same as you, got a canned
respond 3 wks. [I'm not a Plus customer] later... referring me to info, I had
told them I had read, etc., and needed a new solution.

My player is working though, and after the recent MS updates my problem with
playlists was resolved. The XML still isn't working in some Win Explorer files,
but I can delete playlists now.

I'll be happy to try to help you resolve your problem, since I am familiar with
MMJB, and maybe some others here are too... if you'll just tell us more about
your installation. [i.e. What do you have installed on your machine now?]

I have hesitated to upgrade to SP2 because I run Norton Antivirus and Norton
Internet Security. I thought that it may interfere with these programs.
Perhaps any conflicts have since been resolved? Do I have anythting to worry
about with SP2? And do you have tips for avoiding problems with Norton
programs?

I have tried numerous times to install MMJB 10. I have tried it from
upgrading and I have tried it from a direct install. In every case, which is
about 6 times at least, I have wiped deleted the program. Then I have run my
registry cleaner and removed all traces of MMJB. I then run Norton (Win
Doctor) and then removes the shortcuts that don't work anymore. I then try
the install in one of the two ways mentioned above. Neither worked. During
each installation event, I have disabled the Norton Antivirus and Norton
Internet Security. Even though I am the only user of the computer, I alos
made sure that all "permissions" were open on Windows XP.

The thing that is most odd is that MMJB 9 works fine.

Norton have supposedly updated the programs to get over their SP2
incompatibilities. They've had over 6 months to do so.

I have SP2 installed, however... I do NOT have any Norton applications, because
they interfered with too many programs that I like. Some peope have no problems
with Norton, and others choose to avoid them like the plague. I'm in the latter
category. I use a free firewall and other A-V programs.

That was going to be my next question. Seems to me, you have done everything
you can do, to get a clean install [other than uninstalling NAV, which is a
little premature].

I'm not surprised by this, because they have really "bloated up" MMJB this time,
and it is quite possible that you need Windows SP2, for some of the coding in
this version to be handled right.

Also if Windows Media Player is designated your "default" player, I'd change
that, before the next installation of MMJB to see if that makes any difference.
And AFTER deleting everything as you have done before... I would *RESTART* my
computer... and the LAST thing I would check before d/l again, is to *make sure*
NAV is DISABLED.

And then go for a *clean* install of MMJB 10 again.

I feared SP2 for weeks. I read about preparing for it etc.. Well one day I
turned on pc and SP2 was ready to be d'ld. Not quite awake I clicked ok and
about 1/2 hour later I had SP2. Oh and I use Norton System Works.
One thing I learned on this forum and that is don't believe all the horror
stories people post. Lets face it, probably hundreds of thousands (maybe
millions) are using SP2 without a problem, thus not evenposting here.

Thanks for the tips. When the automatic update feature notified me that
updates were ready, SP2 was in the choices available. So, I disabled Norton
Internet Security and Antivirus and pressed "download". The automatic update
started downloading and reads 0 % downloaded and has been that way since
yesterday. Unfortunately, it appears to be stuck. If I click on the icon,
nothing happens. This is the first time I have ever had problems with this
feature. I have restarted my computer a few times already and it just
reappears in the same condition. Unless the Microsoft download center has
suffered a meltdown, it appears that something strange is happening.

I would like to close the application that is automatic update, but I am not
sure which application name to close (if it is shown at all on the task list).

It's best that Mike advise you on this, and hopefully he will check in soon.

I'm a relative novice with WinXP, not qualified to comment on it's workings, and
probably never will be. I do want to help you solve your MMJB problems if I
can though, because I think it's a neat program too. [So I'll hang around.]
