I had 2000 installed first. Then I partitioned the hard
drive and installed XP. When I shut down from XP, I
can't startup into XP. It stalls out after the black
screen with the XP logo and the status bar. If I restart
and boot all the way into 2000, then shut down and boot
into XP it works fine. Any ideas?

May be a BIOS issue.
Enter BIOS setup.
If there is item named like "PNP OS yes/no" set it to NO.
If there is item named like "Reset configuration data" - select it

And check for BIOS update for your mobo.
