Hi all,

I have two computers behind a router both running XP pro. One can
access my work server and the other gets an error:

Remote Desktop Disconnected
The client could not connect to the remote computer....

So I know that the issue is with my desktop. Any ideas what I could
have done to make this STOP working? It was working a few weeks ago but
not now and the other computer going through the same router can
connect. I am puzzled.

Any Ideas will be appreciated.

Thanks,

Larry

Interesting, it could be many things, first here are a few questions...

1. Are you using DHCP on your home network, specifically on the machine
experiencing the problem...

2. Is the Windows Firewall turned on, if so check the exceptions tab and
make sure remote desktop is checked.

3. Have you installed anything or made any changes to the PC lately?

4. Have you checked for spyware/adware to check for problems

5. Is the computer up to date, have you run Windows update?

I know some of the above questions aren't necessarily issues that would
cause RDP to stop working, but it doesn't hurt either.

Let me know how it goes.

thanks

I'm pretty sure that I'm not. I'll check when I get home.

I verified this yesterday - it is on and checked. I also tried turning
it completely off to see if that helped. It didn't.

Recently installed Apache HTTP server and DNS4Me. Although I am pretty
sure that it wasn't working prior to that.

Scan daily with Adaware and MS Antispyware (whatever it's called)

Yes.

Are there any tools to verify that I can get out on that port past my
router? Thanks for your reply. I've tried to get help from our 'Help
Desk' but nothing worked. One suggestion was to run mstsc.exe direct to
the IP which did not work - same error. Usually we connect via the web
first which then runs a script that points at the same IP.

Just checked. My client has DHCP enabled but so does the other computer
which is able to connect.
