Hi everyone,

I just bought a DLink DI-514 wireless router and I'm
using my Centrino laptop. I set everything up as per
instructions and at first I had problems with getting my
laptop to connect to the router via wifi. I updated the
firmware and that solved the general connection problem.

I also ran into problems of connecting to MSN in the
first place but that seems to be solved by opening up
port 1863 as per the Microsoft KB article and MSN help
files.

I set everything up so that I'm running on 64-bit WEP. I
can surf the net just fine and do just about everything
else except for MSN. I'll sign in just fine, but after
about 5-10 minutes, I'll sign out for no apparent reason.
This is regardless of whether I'm doing stuff online,
doing stuff that's not on the net, or even just looking
at my comp (like I was doing looking at a recipe for
dinner).

This is somewhat frustrating since I'd like to be able to
move around in my apartment without having to jack in to
connect to MSN.

Any suggestions?

The trick to fix this is in your power settings on the NIC. If you go
into the properties for your NIC under the advanced tab there is an
option to set the power management. Uncheck the box for default and
set it to maximum. This fixed my problem. Once I figured out what it
was, I played with the setting and was able to reduce it to about 60%
instead of Maximum which will help with battery usuage.
