A few things to try :
Make sure WMP is installed - Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programmes >
Add/Remove Windows Componants > Tick Windows Media Player and Install it.
Upgrade to WMP9 if necessary.
Make sure your soundcard drivers are XP specific. If not, download from the
card's manufacturer's website. Make sure DirectX is up to date (version 9b).
Try using a 3rd party programme eg. WinAmp - its free. Does that work ?
Can you play wave files (eg. system sounds) ? If not right click on the
loudspeaker icone in the Systray and make sure wave/mp3 is not muted and
that the slider is all the way up.
Did you upgrade or do a clean install of XP Home ?
Cheers,
Jerry
