Just re-installed Vista + moved 3 users from C:/Users to D:/ +moved all
their old (pre-install) files from old user profile to new user profile on
D:

Still having few issues with permissions/installing

There must be a proper (belt & braces) way to move user profile but how?

Yes - seen that particular method - very long winded (search & replace in
registry, etc) and still doesn't address permissions problem

I just drag/dropped the user folder from C:\users to D:\ and then changed
the registry profiles in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList from C: to D:

works but having permissions issues

After dragging each user from C:\user folder over to D:\ and changing
registry I had few problems installing programs (e.g. Flash wouldn't
install)
I discovered that the cause was that permissions on the user folder was not
the same as the original - after quite bit playing around, changing
ownership etc i managed to match them to the original user folders and seems
to be working OK - it could be an issue with my particular set up - i've
never seen it mentioned elsewhere but i did have the same problem last time
i installed and moved users
