Recently Windows movie maker for some reason does not recognize my DVD
burner. I am able to burn a DVD in two other programs but not Windows movie
maker. Question one: is there something I need to do to make it to recognize
my DVD burner. Question two: is there a way to repair Windows movie maker.

First of all does your version of Movie Maker even have a "Save to DVD"
option? Because that is only available on MCE machines and using the "Save
to CD" option will not work with DVD's.

If the answer is no then there's the reason but if the answer is yes then
take a look at the other programs you have installed for burning DVD's.
If you installed InCD or something similar that makes Windows Explorer treat
the burner like a harddrive then that tends to interfere with native Windows
burning capabilities so DVD burners are not recognized.

Also check to make sure burning is enabled on the drive. You do this in "My
Computer"
Right click the drive and click properties.
Click the [Recording] tab.
Make sure there is a check mark in the box next to "Enable CD recording on
this drive"

The MM does not have a DVD burn option however on the same computer I can
burn DVD's with 2 other programs. So I know the DVD burner is working. Also
on my laptop (different system) it the Movie Maker program and the option to
burn DVD is available. I'll try your suggestions and thanks.........

The burner may be working with other programs...
but as Wojo previously stated...the only version
of Windows XP Movie Maker that has the
burn to DVD option is the...Media Center Edition...
'MCE'...is that the version of XP you are running?

Plus in many cases DVD writing programs, you didn't mention what the other
two you have are, can sometimes interfere with Windows XP native DVD burning
just as InCD does.

Hi, I'm new to this forum. Just created a wedding video with MM, using AVI
video collection clips. It's about 41 minutes long and I did the save to DVD
option. I did this 3 times, each time it took about 40 minutes to save.
Time #1: finished up, then window with the "burn DVD" and write speeds, etc
was all grayed out.
Time #2: finished up, the "burn DVD" window not grayed out, but each time I
hit "create dvd" it said write speed not correct. I tried the write speed at
every speed available (2x,4x,6x,8x) and none worked. Had to cancel again.
Time #3: See #1

I think the DVD creator that it defaults into is Sonic DVD Creator.

I also tested burning another DVD with some mp3 files and it worked fine, so
the burner works.
