The best way is to publish the root web (do not publish subwebs) to
the subweb, then delete unwanted content from the root web (do not
delete the _private or images folders, but the files in them may be
deleted).
You can have as many DWTs as you wish in any web or subweb. The
subweb will require its own DWT(s) (or copies of those used in the
root web), since a DWT can only be used in the web that contains it.
