Missing AVG Email Scanner certificate at the end of some emails

Hello,

Since a few days I'm using the personal email scanner of AVG 7. It
works reliable, catches all viruses and moves them to the quatantine
folder. The email scanner has been configured to scan all incoming
emails and
to add an certificate(to the end of the message body). But on a few
emails per day, this certificate is missing.

Have a look at the following example which shows a short extract of the
logfile:

27.10.2003 09:26:21: Received mail from: "Net Email Storage System"
<(E-Mail Removed)>
27.10.2003 09:26:21: Die Datei aggoakjx.exe: Virus identifiziert:
I-Worm/Swen.A. Das Attachment wurde in die Virenquarant_ne gestellt.

TO: " " <(E-Mail Removed)>
SUBJECT: Undeliverable Message

So a Swen.A virus was detected and the attachment aggoakjx.exe moved to
the quarantine folder. But the corresponding email doen't show the
certificate. See the source text of this email how it arrived in my
local
news- and mail-server (Hamster):

Has anyone made the same experience? Is it simply a AVG bug, or does
anyone see something irregular in above listings?

Many thanks in advance for any help.

I have been trying to figure out why mine has never added a
certificate to either outgoing or incoming. I finally gave up and
assumed this was something that they said was part of the program but
wasn't actually there.

I have been trying to figure out why mine doesn't seem to work right either.
I configured it to add the certificate and when I ran a test email to myself
the certificate arrived as an attachment to the email which, because of the
rules that I set up in OE, promptly sent the email to the delete folder as a
possible virus. What's up with that?
If anyone could explain how to get this feature to work correctly with OE, I
would really appreciate it.
Carolyn

If you select 'E-Mail Scanner' in AVG Control Center and click on
'Properties' you'll get a new window. There under 'Plugins' select
'Personal E-Mail Scanner' and hit 'Configure'. Another window opens.
There under 'E-Mail Scanning' mark the boxes 'Check for incoming mail'
and 'Certify mail'. Do not activate 'With attachments only' in order
to get the certificate for every incoming e-mail. Close all windows
with 'OK', and you're there.

As mentioned in my first message of this thread this usually works.
Unfortunately, in a few cases the certificate is missing even though
the Personal E-Mail Scanner has scanned the e-mail (which can be seen
from the E-Mail Scanner log). I further examined those e-mails and
noticed that all I came across until now had two properties:

1. An attachment infected by a virus (which then has been removed by
AVG) and

2. Content-Type: multipart/alternative in the header.

Best regards

I'm configured that way Eckhardt but it still does not certify either
incoming or outgoing. I did send some emails to support but... NoBody
home there or no humans work there. All you get back is a canned
robot answer that your email has been received.

Too bad though... that would have been a nice thing to have in the
software......

When receiving emails do you see a spinning icon (same colours as AVG
Control Center) in the system tray? This is the AVG Email Scanner. If
not, your email traffic is not being passed through the Scanner,
therefore the Scanner can't scan and add certificates to your emails.
Do the following: Goto AVG Control Center/E-Mail
Scanner/Properties/Plugins, select Personal E-Mail Scanner and click on
'properties', select 'servers', delete any entry, add a new one. On the
'New server properties' select 'Other applications', skip reading next
window, press 'OK', select 'POP3'. On the 'POP3 Server connection'
window select 'USER/COMPUTER', set 'Local port' to "5200" and mark
'Activate this server and use for sending/receiving e.mail', 'OK'. In
the 'Personal E-Mail Scanner Setuo' window, the server list entry
should look exactly like this:
POP3: port: 5200 host: ", the server properties "USER/COMPUTER" and
local port "5200", server status "ACTIVE". Now 'OK' everything, the AVG
part for incoming emails is done. In Outlook choose
Tools/Accounts/Mail/Properties/Servers, set 'Incoming e-mail (POP3)'
to "127.0.0.1", 'Account name' to
"your_user_account@your_IP_mailserver_name". Next, go to the property
page 'Details' and set 'Incoming e-mail (POP3) port number' to "5200".
Close all windows with 'OK'. Done.

Good luck

In OE I never get attached certificates. In Outlook this happens if
Outlook is receiving an html-email (which can be seen when being opened
:the window title bar ends with (html)) and the AVG Outlook Plugin
has't been installed.

That is how I have mine configured. I just sent myself a test email (my
email is configured to receive HTML) in OE and the message showed up with an
attachment. The attachment was the AVG certification.

The AVG icon does spin when I receive emails. I noticed this the other day
when I had a large attachment come through. I think that the small
attachments come through so quickly on a cable connection that I did not
notice it before.
When I go into my details on the accounts, it appears that AVG is using 5100
instead of 5200. I am running Zone Alarm Pro, which I believe also has some
mail checking abilities, and wonder if the port is different because of
this?
