I have used water before, but I think the best solvent would be some
fresh ink.
Maybe the new ink disolves dried ink you cannot get at from the outside.
I am not sure is a cotten swap is a good idea if some cotten gets trapped
in one of the holes.
I am thinking if water works then surely ink would run on a 'wet page'?

The color nozzles on my Stylus Color 500 will clog if I go more than 2 weeks
without printing. The black nozzles on my brother's Stylus Color 600 have
clogged up several times. The last time the nozzles on my printer clogged up
I was able to open them up by cleaning them with a cotton swap and water. I
have not had much luck cleaning my brother's print head, but twice it
started printing after replacing the black ink cartridge, even though there
was no indication it was empty or even low on ink.
