If it is similar to Scan Dual II (my scanner), initializing is not
only a blinking status light, which just says it's on, but also a stop
and start whirring sound. It will cycle 4 or 5 times, then sort of rev
up and stop, at which point it is ready. I think just turning the
scanner on will not initialize it. You need also to start some
software to interface with it. I'm very rusty on the Minolta oem
software. Are you intending to interface with your scanner through
Minolta's twain interface within Photoshop. If so, you would start
Photoshop, then go to pulldown File|Import|Scan Dual IV (something
similar to this), and THEN, you should start hearing the initializing
noise. I believe you can also start Minolta oem software as a
stand-alone app (Easy Scan?), independent of Photoshop, but I'm so
rusty on this, I'm not sure. I only interface thru Vuescan, for over a
year now.
