Microsoft FAX driving me crazy...!

Hi guys,

I'm using the following configuration:

- Windows 2003 Standard Edition SP1 (Terminal Server)
- T37FSP Fax software
- Microsoft Fax services (required component for T37FSP)

Faxes are sent through a Cisco Gateway.
Everything works fine until we try to send faxes which use cover pages.

I'm able to preview the fax using the "preview" button during the send
a fax wizard. After I click send though, the fax doesn't show in the
outbox or sent items queue.
The fax server event viewer says "fax could not be submitted" and
highlights error 3003 ("A StartDocPrinter call was not issued.").

The same errors appears using domain admin and local admin rights. It
doesn't make a difference if the fax is being sent remotely (after the
fax printer is mapped) or local from the fax server itself.

I tried installing Service Pack 1 for Windows 2003 on the fax server to
no avail.
Any help would be VERY appreciated !

This would be a question for the FSP vendor.

Everything points to it being a 3rd party issue. The only way to know for
sure will be to use a paid support incident with Microsoft.

This is not a 3rd party issue.
A simple test would be to use off-the-shelf fax driver provided by
Microsoft for fax-modem instead of T37FSP, most likely the same problem
will be reproduced.
If Fax Service had T37FSP involved, the fax job would be visible in the
Outbox from Fax Console.
Seems to be something to do with security.

You are right. I researched the issue and it is indeed happening before the
job is created, before FSP is involved. Based on what I see a call to
Microsoft Support is warranted.
