messenger 6.2 wont log in

I posted earlier about this. I am running xp and downloaded messenger 6.2
whenever I try and log in I ger the error code 0x81000301, I can log in on
my old messenger 4 I think it is,with no problems.help please

Hi k,

If you can log into the "old one" without problems (which I assume you mean Windows Messenger
4.x), then more than likely you might have a third-party firewall which is blocking MSN
Messenger but not blocking Windows Messenger. You might need to go into whatever firewall
software you have installed's configuration and setup MSN Messenger to have full access so
the Internet connection.

I have turned XP firewall off and still get the same fault code

Hi k,

The XP firewall blocks incoming traffic only, it won't block Messenger's logging in procedure
(which is outgoing only); there must be something else you have installed.
