If I have media player 10, Why does it say I need a new plug in to play a
file? Ten minutes to download a file that says I already have a newer
version. Is this another ms screwup?

No idea - you haven't told us the file-type, plug-in or message text.

1.Check the newsgroups archives for prior discussion or solution of your
problems e.g.
http://groups.google.com/groups?grou...c.windowsmedia
Error message codes may be found searching there or via a general web
search. Most problems have been addressed here before: don't expect a
custom answer.

2. For Windowsmedia newsgroup posting guidelines see
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win.../faq.aspx#1_19 .
Please supply ANSWERS to the questions there, don't just repeat the
questions.

3. Please deliver feedback to the newsgroup, so that others can be
helped. No one gets paid to help here, and the response rate from the
helped is less than 1%. If that was how medical advancements were made
you'd all have died years ago.

Well that's a new bit of information. Anything else that you have saved
up, or are you just trying to tax the patience of the people here with
some expertise who are helping out for free? <plonk>

What is the exact text of the update message? Different messages come from
different sources - nobody can tell for you whether it's an error from WMP
or a notification from WMP update...

Now Playing: "Nowhere Without You" by "Sophie Ellis-Bextor" in WMP10.
