Mapped drives show red cross symbol on icons

I have 3 PCs on a Win2K PTP network and have no problems except that mapped
drives often appear with a little red cross on them, suggesting that they
are unavailable or disconnected.

The symbols appear and disappear randomly with no apparent cause or effect.
The drives are still available and can still be browsed as normal, so it
doesn't actually cause me any problem, but the fact that the symbol appears
suggests to me that something isn't right.

I have tried removing all mapped drives and recreating them with different
letters. This seems to fix temporarily, but the symbols appear again after
a while.

Can anybody help to explain what's going on and suggest a remedy?

This is usually caused by the default autodisconnect behavior in Windows
2000. The default autodisconnect value is 15 minutes. For information on
how to change the autodisconnect value, see:

Thanks Danny.

I've modified the registry value and trust this will fix it.
