I have updated several Dell comptuers at the office to Windows XP Pro (all clean installs). Pretty much every single one of them at some point or another have had this problem. The weird thing is that I purchased 6 brand new Dell laptops with XP Pro installed and they have never had this problem. The iss is that every once in a blue moon, after the user reboots or shuts down their computer, when they log back onto the network everything seems that it's working fine except for the mapped drives. Exchange email through Outlook and the Interent both work fine, but the mapped drives do not reconnect. When they try to click on a mapped drive a message says that "an error occured while trying to reconnect. The drive may already by in use." If they reboot again it usually solves the problem. It probably won't happen again for another 2 or 3 weeks to some (it's really sporatic). I found one fix that I have installed on each machine dealing with the hive and installing a service called UPHClean.exe. UPHClean is supposed to be a service that once and for all gets rid of problems with userprofile not unloading. That's not working either because occasionally the problem still occurs. Any ideas or thoughts would be a big help on how to fix this.
