MailWasher is crashing my system

Hi all - I have been using MailWasher for the past few weeks, and it has
been working fine. However, suddenly, yesterday and today, when I shut it
down, it gives me the Bums' Rush and just gives me the blue screen. When I
shut it down from the Power on/off button, and then restart, when it comes
back up I get an error box that says there was a Kernel386 error. I have
never seen this before, so I have no idea what it is referring to. I
recently installed Mozilla, and it also boots to the blue screen. I did not
have any problems like this until after I installed Mozilla a few days ago,
but just. I can't get to the Mozilla support, 'cause as soon as I click on
support it boots to the blue screen.

I am hoping that perhaps someone might be able to shed some light on what
might be happening. My RAM, Memory and resources are sufficient to handle
the program.

Best regards,
Jan

Of course,
it's a good app <g>
Are you using the MW-Pro,
or one of the freebie versions?

>I recently installed Mozilla,

Certainly not on my recommendation,
however, there are many fans of that browser here
who might can help you get it sussed out.

Did your BSOD happen to refer to which application triggered it,
or just the kernal error?

good luck

BTW: how close are the fires to you?
lots of smoke and ash fallout here.

Now, I am not saying to do anything here. You just wanted to know about
the error and possible fix.

I'll just say that a possible upgrade of the O/S over the top of the
existing install might fix the problem. It won't break anything with
other programs. I would uninsatll the two applications that are giving
you the problems and then upgrade over the top. And then reinstall the
applications. But it could just be that you have installed a old version
of one of the programs that is not compatible.

I have used the upgrade and reinstall and application method a few times
over the years to fix a problem. If you have applied SP(s)and I believe
Hot Fixes you'll have to reinstall them, if O/S upgrade fix is used.

Restore the registry from prior to the problem beginning. (at a
command prompt: scanreg /restore, assuming win9x, or restore a prior
system restore if winMe, win2k or XP).

MailWasher will crash if you shut it down while it is processing messages.
Blue screens..

Hi Jan.......

As you are using WinME.......why not uninstall the two programs and do a
System Restore if it is not more than a week or so. I have gone back as
far as 2 weeks, but it is not advisable.

Remember if you reinstall WinME, you have to get the Sept. 8th, 2001
patch to make System Restore do auto restore points again. I would try
the uninstall first, do a RegClean (I can send you the MS RegClean if
you have cable)......and see how it goes......

You have System Restore as a backup here.

Cheers.....Heather

THe freebie.....to test it out first.... ;-))

Why......of course not on your recommendation....a few others though, and
not just Art. ;-)

Hey...I do few other languages besides English, lightly, but, Greek is not
one of them.... ;-) When the blue screen throws a line of error lingo at me,
I have no idea what it means. No, it did not designate any specific program
that I could determine from the message....just the Kernel386. Strange, I
was really caught off guard with that, as it is usually something like
Kernel32 something.

Well...let's just say.....*WAYYY* too close. You got smoke and ash? We
could not even see the house at the end of our block for the smoke and ash
most of the day. We had fires literally 180 degrees around us, and only a
few miles away before the winds died down and it slowed up. I live near the
52 and Mission Gorge Rd area.....Santee Lakes and Mission Trails Park are
not that far away. So, the car is still packed, and I'm still
watching.....and it's still creeping.... power is iffy.....no fun. Thanks
for asking.

Yeah, If you try to terminate it while it's still hooked to the winsock
without using the internal stop process first. Like if you're trying to
bounce to an invalid domain and it hasn't timed out yet. I haven't tried
to kill it with Appswat yet so don't know if that would produce the same
BSOD or not. Appswat is a ruthless prockill whereas a more graceful
termination of running processes can be accomplished with a freeware app
called Faber Toys.

I really appreciate this information. I must say that I don't /really/
think it is the MW, as it had been working fine since I installed it.
Perhaps you are right that the Mozie I installed was not a good version, as
the problem did not happen with MW until I installed the Mozie 1.2. I tried
the newer version but, I couldn't get it to open without crashing, I tried
the 1.2.

I have uninstalled Mozie for now, but, when I shut down MW I still got the
blue screen. I don't spazzz as much as I used to when I get one of those,
but, shooo...it does still make me take a big gulp, and utter a few Hoollyyy
Cooww's when it pops up out of the...well...blue. <g>

Ya know, I know that the reinstall of the ME is a good way to sort things
out...but, I have such a hard time with so many problems with reinstalling
all the SP's, updates, and patches, that I tarry to do that unless there is
no other recourse. :-)

Thanks again for your time and assistance, I do appreciate it.

Jan

I will keep this in mind, but, at the times that I shut it down, it did not
appear to be processing any messages at elast not that I could see. But,
I'll keep that in mind, and be sure not to shut Venus down before it has
finished devouring all the flies. ;-))
