Lost option to import part of video...

Hello all,

WinXP, MovieMaker 6.0, with a Sony HDR-HC5, using an i-Link cable.

I have lost the option to import part of a video - I only have one option -
"Import the entire video tape to my computer"

I'm hoping there is some way to reset this, since I really don't want the
first 55 minutes, again...

Thanks,
Bernie

EH? I thought WMM 6.0 was "Vista-only" ?

Plus, your headers indicate that you posted this message via "Windows Mail"
which also indicates Vista.

Sounds to me like you're saying you've lost the camera controls function in
WMM. Is that correct?

walter,

You're right - I do have Vista. I guess I'm too used to posting to the Excel
forums from my other machine ;-)

I am able to import video, but the only option that I receive is the 'entire
tape with a rewind' version. I used to get three options, though I cannot
remember the specific wording, and I'm sure one could be used start the
import without a rewind. WMM will do the auto rewind, and capture the video,
so it appears that I am still properly communicating with my video camera.

Thanks,
Bernie

:-) Well now that that's straightened out ....

Sounds like you've somehow managed to 'lose' the "Capture a Portion of the
Tape Manually" option, which allows (in XP) for cueing up the tape (while
it's in the camera) to any position you desire *BEFORE* beginning the
capture.

Not being familiar with Vista's version of WMM, I'll leave this thread now
so that others more knowledgable about Vista can help you.

The only other thing I can tell you from the little bit of research I did
here, is that it seems that WMM 6.0 only comes along with a PRE-Installed
version of Vista. Looks like version 2.6 is the latest 'replacement' for
6.0 available for download (should you need to) from Microsoft.

Double-check me on that before you do anything drastic though. :-)

Good Luck

Movie Maker 2.6 is not an update nor is it a replacement...
it is intended for systems that are not adequate to run
version 6.

Have you ever had MM working properly on this pc?
Have you made changes since it last worked?
Can you undo these using system restore?
Have you tried restarting the pc?
Are you sure you have i-link and not usb connected?
Can you just set the tape to play adn then press record in MM and catpure
your last 5 mins to get you editing this project again?

I'll *try* to remember that John, thanks. :-) But you won't catch me
running Vista, EVER. Though I *do* appreciate it's release. It helped my
fledgling computer repair business immensely. ;-)

I see Windows7 will be available for download on 5/5. I'll give it a whirl
on one of the machines I don't care about over here. I wonder if it
includes any changes as far as WMM is concerned?

All well and good. But can you provide a download/repair link for WMM 6.0?
I can't seem to find one, though admittedly I didn't look very long.

What should the OP do, if his copy of WMM 6.0 is FUBAR?

Here's what I get when I type "movie maker 6.0" into the Microsoft download
site;
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/e...&stype=s_basic

1 of 1, and that's only to do with creating your own effects and
transistions in WMM *2*?

Windows 7 doesn't include any version of Movie Maker.

Movie Maker is being totally rebuilt and included in the optional Windows
Live suite.... see my website's Setup Movie Maker > Windows Live Movie Maker
page..
