Running XP Professional with Office 2003. When we turn the computer on, and the system boots up, the welcome/log in screen displays the different users (we have no passwords so elected to not use ctrl+alt+del). One of the user accounts shows 7 unread email messages. The user has no unread emails..matter of fact, email is via POP3 which was not connected. When we go to the Outlook account we have even marked all messages as unread and logged off to see if that will change the status. It does not. How do we get the log on screen to update (or not show email status at all)

The welcome screen does not display messages from outlook. Only outlook
express, hotmail, and sometimes aol. In any event:
Download and install tweakui for xp and use its repair mail count feature or
use it to turn the mail count off completely.

Or edit the registry and delete the mail accounts you don't want:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\UnreadMail

Hi Val,

You can do this by doing the following.

Download TweakUI from
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/p.../powertoys.asp
After you install it, run Start - Run - TweakUI.
Click on Repair.
From the drop down, click Repair unread email count.

This should fix the login screen for you.

Hope this helps!

Thx,
