I am currently migrating a user file server from NT4 to a new server running
W2K Svr. the win2k server will still be part of the NT4 domain structure for
the time being.
The problem I have is with group permissions on folders. I used Arcserve V9
to restore the files onto the new server, and the permissions are restored
correctly and can be viewed when doing properties > security. However when a
user tries to access the folder they get an access denied message even
though they are part of the local group. The only way to make it work is to
create a new global group and put all the members of the local group into it
and reapply the security to the folder. Is there a way to convert these
local groups to global ones to save having to do this with a large number of
groups or can win2k be made to work with NT4 local groups via a registry
change.
