How to load Firefox faster?

I continue to be frustrated by the continuing promises and claims of
firefox, that this version will load faster. On my older, 650Mhz, 126ram
machine, IE still loads almost instantly, whereas firefox 1.5 still takes
some time to load and display.

Is there something extra users like myself can do to increase the
loading speed of firefox?

Firefox is very slow, perhaps the slowest of them all. You might just
keep it loaded all the time and minimize it when not in use. That's
what I do. Also, K-Meleon is there too, and it's much faster to load,
more like IE.

There's the Fasterfox extension. I've not used it personally. User
comments appear to be generally favorable. YMMV.

Seconded. IE starts quickly because most of it is already loaded in memory
by the OS. The FF Preloader does this for Firefox so it starts up just as
fast.

Does this work with any version of Firefox? I notice it's about a year
old now.

I haven't used it either. FWIW, some people have raised some pretty
serious concerns about what it does.

IE loads very fast. :-) with a preload of its dll's

If you want the fastest loading programs then I suggest you stay with MIcrojunk.
