Lately I've heard a lot of people telling me that a Linux server is more
secure than a Windows server. I don't know what to believe. Is it? I was
hoping someone could put some light on this situation.

All OSes and software have vulnerabilities. What makes Windows ~seem~ less
safe than Windows is that there are more people trying to find the security
holes. If you're a malicious person wanting to write a virus or plan an
attack, it wouldn't make sense to pick an OS that only 2% of the world uses.
That is why you hear or Windows attacks more often than other OSes.

The link you posted shows Microsoft IIS 6.0 running on "Linux" - which it
obviously does not not.
The netcraft site is incorrectly identifying the fact that there are other
systems used by our hosting partners that route and load balance etc etc
prior to you actually reaching the Windows Server IIS web servers that
actually host the microsoft.com external web site.

For a better understanding of this - look at the link on the page you posted
the link to.
It is right at the top and has the title Microsoft Running Linux?! this
links to
http://news.netcraft.com/archives/20..._a_point_.html

It is always advisable to understand the full story and meaning of the data
you are quoting when used as evidence to back up a claim.

Much depends on the skill of the administrator, in either case. You can
build a crappy Linux box just as easily as a crappy Windows box....
