When trying to install this game i get the following error mesage-

Links 2003 setup encountered a disk error while writing to the file c:
\program files\microsoft games\links2003\graphics.Is please make sure the
disk is not full or the file is not in use.

If I ignore this message and continue to install everything is o.k until I
create a new player then I get another message saying invalid location -
263123717 and the game then crashes.

I know that there is plenty room on my hd because there is over 20gb left.
Could the file graphics.1s be in use and if so by what?

my machine spec is

hp pavilion
AMD Athlon 1800+
Windows xp home edition (sp1)
256 mb ddr ram
radeon 9200se craphics card
40gb hd.

I have also installed all the latest drivers and fixes so please dont
suggest I do this.

Can anyone tell me how to fix this problem?

Hi General Martok,

Here's what I suggest:

1. Log onto XP using the Owners / Administrators account
2. Completely uninstall the previous instance of Links 2003
3. Reinstall Links 2003

Here's how to properly install or reinstall a game (and patch):

Step A: Temporarily disable Startup programs one at a time, starting with
Firewall, Antivirus & AdBlockers using this method:
http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=331796 or this utility:
http://new.jtsoft2001.com/windows/startup.php Reboot, go to Step B.

Step B: In Control Panel / Add-Remove Programs, delete the game and then
the game's folder especially if you previously experienced problems
with a patch, or if you installed the Trial, Mods, NO CD patches, etc.

Note: Click Start to Search or Find your game. Many times there are two installs
of the same game on a system and the patch installs to the wrong one. Also if you
installed a Trial version of the game, this could be causing a conflict.. Uninstall it
and delete the folder.

Step C: Install and Run Regcleaner and if it finds any stray registry keys for the
game, delete them. Reboot your computer, and then re-install the game.
Regcleaner Download: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download460.html

Step D: Play a single player game, using an administrators account if necessary.

Step E: Download new game patches or mods in case the old ones are corrupt.
Double click the patch/mod to install it. If it's a .zip file, unzip it into the
game's folder and follow the instruction in it's readme.txt file.

Step F: Reboot your computer, verify that your game is working properly, and
re-enable any programs that you disabled using the method in Step A.

Cheers,
Jimmy S.

Hi Jimmy S,

I tried what you suggested. However, the game still crashes when trying to
copy the file graphics.ls. I am begining to think that the cd might in some
way be damaged. I looked at the cd for scratches\fingerprints\dirt and so on
but couldn't find anything. Is there anywhere that I can download this file
from because I think that would solve the problem and allow me to install
this game.

Hi General,

Try copying the CD to your hard drive and see if it will install from there.
In My Computer, right click the CD and select COPY.
Paste to your C: drive, cross your fingers and try installing the
game.

Hi General Martok,

Try cleaning the CD and verify if you can copy that file on another

Jonathan, you haven't mentioned which graphics card you're running, but you
might try this Microsoft Knowledge Base article, which covers most display
issues:
http://support.microsoft.com/default...21&Product=gms
You will note among the items in the article are links (pardon the pun) to
the Links 2003 update.
