Link email to contacts history

If i try to link email messages from Outlook to record(s)
(who are not recipients of the original email) in my
Outlook Business Contact Manager I simply can't. it
should be relatively intuitive with the "Link to history"
tool bar on each opened message but it simply does not
save my selection(s) despite trying alternative messages
and contacts to link. what could be a source of this
inability to execute this simple task?
