I bought a solid-plastic Lexar 128 MB Jump Drive "Secure" which says
it comes with security software to password protect critical data.
Then a couple days ago I bought a clear-plastic Lexar 128 MB Jump
Drive without the word "Secure" on the package for $10 less. The
software from Lexar's site is exactly the same for either drive.
Is there a difference between these 2 drives or is it a marketing
thing where you pay $10 more for the word "Secure" and the inclusion
of software you can download from the Internet for free and use
equally well with either drive?
How secure is this Lexar security software compared to PGP? I doubt
it's at PGP levels, but is it better than WinZip and is it good enough
that I could store financial records on the jump drive off-site and
not worry about people being able to break into the data unless they
have a super-computer available?
If Lexar's security software is not particularly secure, do any jump
drives come with really good security software or do I have to buy a
PGP encrypter program if I want to protect the files sufficiently?
