Laptop on Company Network; Laptop on Home Network

I need to get a WinXP PRO laptop to work with both a
company and home LAN.

Both the company(companydomainname) and home
(homedomainname) domains have DHCP servers.

The alternative configuration object assumes 1 of those
domains will not have a DHCP server....wrong!!!

With that assumption in mind, I set up the alternative
configuration to use a static IP from the DHCP Pool.

The problem...when the user attempts to log in, the option
to log in to the domain only allows for
(companydomainname) or Local Computer.

How does the user log in to the (homedomainname) if not
offered.

Hi,

I use my laptop to do the same thing. The problem is that the laptop (any
machine) can only be a member of any single domain; not multiple domains.
This refers to the machine account, not the user account.

Here's what I would recommend (and what I do) - make your laptop a member
of companydomain (it sounds like it is currently). When you are attached
to your company's network, you will be able to access resources there of
course.

In your homedomainname, make sure you have a user account with the same
name you use on your company domain and set the same password on that
account. This way, when at home (and still logging onto your
companydomainname as XP will allow this and will use cached credentials)
you will be able to access resources on your home LAN by virtue of you
having a matching username and password.

The DHCP issue will take care of itself. Each time you connect to either
network, the laptop will try to renew its IP address. If you have moved
from one network to the other, it will obtain an IP address that is valid
for that network.

MultiNetwork Manager from www.globesoft.com
will let you log on to multiple domains but only one at
the time.
