I purchased a used comp. with windows XP. The first thing my daughter did
was change the password, now she can not remember it. I have tried to go
into Safe Mode and log on the Adiministrator screen but I don't have that
password either. Can anyone help, what do I do?

As it was a used computer you have no real way of knowing what is on that
machine (virus, torjans etc), you would be well advised to do a clean
installation of the operating system (Windows XP) and any other software you
bought with the machine.
For the software and opertaing system on that computer to be correctly
legally transferred to you they must have supplied you with the original CDs
and any other materials so doing a clean reinstall should not be a problem.
If you did not get the CDs etc they you have not legally bought that
software (and this may include the operating system), in which case you must
purchase the appropriate software if you wish to use it.

I do have all the instulation cd and infor but I don't want to loose what I
already have in the computor, is there not a way that I can log in on the
adim. screen so that I can reset her (my 10 year old daughter's) password?

When you try to log on as administrator try leaving the password
blank.

In news:1F8C3587-6DDE-42EA-96ED-(E-Mail Removed),
Trairdon <(E-Mail Removed)> had this to say:

My reply is at the bottom of your sent message:

Try this site (it says NT but works for XP as well.)

http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/

Also you should seriously consider reformatting anyhow. You don't know what
the other owner had on the PC but you're quite likely legally accountable
for the content now that you own it.
