Invalid parameter error in pivot chart date axis

I have a simple pivot chart graphing dates on the x-axis and values on the
y-axis. I have a large number of dates so wish to display an auto timescale
axis (as described here:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/ac...882441033.aspx). However when
changing property to auto I get an error dialog that pops up saying "Invalid
parameter"?
