Internet connection wizard - connection name problem

Hi all,

I have a problem on a computer when going through the
Internet connection wizard. I am setting up an account to
allow access to broadband.

I go through the wizard okay, entering the phone number,
Id and password info and then get stuck on the internet
connection name step. I simply need to give the
connection a name but the dialog won't accept anything I
type in there.

I get an error message for anything I type in saying:

"the entry name must contain at least one character that
is not a space and cannot begin with a period. Choose a
different name."

I understand the criteria, its just that anything i put
in brings this error message (eg, BTWorld ). As such I
can never complete the wizard, and never get our internet
connection going.

Any ideas?

Hi

I wasn't aware you needed a phone number etc to create a broadband connection

What O.S.'s are you running? If its a server, what other services do you have running? DHCP? DNS
What Broadband modem are you using
How is the Broadband modem connected to the system/network

These things will help us solve your query

Hi,

>I wasn't aware you needed a phone number etc to create a

broadband connection.

I understand but BT (england broadband) assured me that
the number had to be supplied.

>What O.S.'s are you running?

Windows 2000

>If its a server, what other services do you have
>running? DHCP? DNS?

Not a server as such, just a home computer.

>What Broadband modem are you using?

Not sure, but I don't think its significant. The problem
lies in the window dialog that creates the name for the
connection (in the final stages of the internet
connection wizard).

>How is the Broadband modem connected to the
>system/network.

broadband modem lies between the affected computer and
the physical phone line. Nothing else involved

I was kind of hoping to get some feedback about a
potential virus etc that is disabling the completion of a
network connection through the internet connection
wizrard. I have not seen anything like this before.
Apparently my client clicked on a suspicious porn email
before the trouble began ...
