Installing problem with Epson Scanner

I have been attempting to install my Epson Perfection 1200U on my new XP PC
and have already read that one of the commonest problems is not installing
the software before connecting the hardware.
To make sure I uninstalled the software and disconnected the scanner power
supply and USB connecter..
Rebooted and checked that the scanner was listed in Device manager and
working OK.
Then turned on the smart panel and got the same message "The scanner cannot
be detected. Make sure the scanner is connected properly."
I have checked the USB connecter and it seems OK
What can be the problem?

Hi...

Un-install again. Then (if you have no other scanners) erase
everything in your windows\twain_32 directory. Including any
subdirectory's under twain_32

If you do have other scanners, then delete windows\escndv\*.* and any
subdirectory's under that.

Next, make sure the scanner is disconnected, and re-install the
software. With any luck you'll be good to go.

Take care.

Ken

Also set the following environment variable:

devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1

Once that is set, open device manager and click View, Show Hidden
Devices.

Check to see if the scanner shows up, and if it does right-click it and
select 'Uninstall'.

Indeed. I have a 1200U and XP, and it all works just fine. BTW do
check the HP web site as I found a later version of the software than
what came on the CD with my scanner.

Hi...

Darn. The plot thickens

Are your usb ports working? Anything else usb to plug in and try?
Or perhaps something you could borrow, like a camera or mass storage
device?

If nothing else works, then is usb support enabled in bios?

I think you mean the Epson website.

The latest driver, for WinXP (TWAIN Driver v5.53A), can be found at

http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/s...Type=Downloads
