I want to install my newly acquired WinXP Home edition on top of Win XP Pro
copy. Anything special I should know abouy and/or is it possible to do so
without damaging or loosing stored data and info...

You cannot install Windows XP Home Edition over Windows XP Professional.
A "clean install" is required.

You will need to clean install XP Home and you will lose all your data.
Backup all important data and software located on the hard drive before the
clean install.
Since nothing will carry over with the clean install, you will need to
assemble all your program installation disks, serial numbers, passwords,
hardware drivers, download and burn to disk updates not included on the XP
CD. Example would be if the XP CD is pre Service Pack 1 or 2, you would need
to download SP2, also disconnect external drives [especially any Zip
Drives].
None of my business, but any particular reason to replace Pro with Home?

You boot from the CD and do a clean install.
