Hello,

I have installed "Group Policy" for access to remote computers, and I want
just to add/remove software but I cannot find it.

In both "Computer configuration" and "User configuration" there is "Software
settings" but empty.

How to add/remove software remotely?

Regards,
Vladimir

I'm not sure what you want to do here but take a look for the follow
articles:

Group Policy Software Installation

Best practices for Group Policy Software Installation:

My "Computer Configuration/Software settings" folder in "local/remote
computer policy", is empty.
So I dont have "Software installation" at all and cannot move further from
this step:

http://www.microsoft.com/resources/d...003/enterprise
/proddocs/en-us/Default.asp?url=/resources/documentation/WindowsServ/2003/en
terprise/proddocs/en-us/appmgr_assignapp.asp

Access a GPO in the Active Directory. THere you can create software packages
under the node you are talking about.

I had to open Run/MMC and ADD/REMOVE SNAP-IN and added "standalone
snap-in" - "Group Policy"
But when I "browse for GP object" there is only:

"Default Domain Controllers Policy"
"Default Domain Policy"

and "Remote/local computer"

When I choose "Remote/local computer", I get "computer x object", BUT
"SOFTWARE SETTINGS" IS EMPTY!
When I choose "Default Domain Policy" then I get "Software Installation"
box.

But I would like to deploy software on a per-computer basis, not on a
per-domain basis.
Why is "software settings" empty when I access specific computer GP?

And is it possible to deploy .exe files with GP or only .msi?

Regards,
Vladimir

IF you right-click on the Software node, you can add in a new package. There
are NO packages in software by default.

You can only deploy MSI's to computers.

1)Are you trying to say that if I create new package through "Default Domain
Policy", and then add snap-in for GP object "local/remote computer" from
Domain, it will have "SOFTWARE SETTINGS" with that package?

2) How to apply programs that do not have .msi file ?

1) no, not saying that. I am pretty sure you can't deploy software from a
local gpo.
2) you can use a package (wise, wininstall, installsheild, etc) to create
one.

Vladimir, there is a way to deploy .exe files with GP to both computers
and users. Its called Specops Deploy and
seems to be a extension of Group Policy. You'll find it on
www.specopssoft.com.
They have a 30-day trial you can check out. I downloaded yesterday and
it seems really cool so far.

Regards
Tray
