I have two HDDs and dual boot them. One has XP in its primary partition C:
and the other has Xista RC2 in its Primary C: partition.
When I had RC1 and installed from an ISO disk image it installed in the 2nd
drive without problem, however, since the XP HDD was still mounted it did
not create a boot sector on the Vista HDD. So I decided to make a clean
install with the XP HDD cable disconnected and then everything worked fine
with or without the XP HDD connected.
I understand that may not work with an RTM upgrade license but it may be
worth a try.
