I have been advised to increase the number of TCP/IP connections set in my
XP+SP2 set-up so as to improve my connection speed from my ISP.
Unfortunately the advice did not tell me how to do this.

Search results I find confusing and the Network Wizard doesn't seem to deal
with this issue.

I would appreciate a pointer as to where to go in XP to do this.

TIA

Create a text file and add these lines:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters]
"NullSessionPipes"=hex(7):43,00,4f,00,4d,00,4e,00,41,00,50,00,00,00,43,00,4f,\
00,4d,00,4e,00,4f,00,44,00,45,00,00,00,53,00,51,00,4c,00,5c,00,51,00,55,00,\
45,00,52,00,59,00,00,00,53,00,50,00,4f,00,4f,00,4c,00,53,00,53,00,00,00,4c,\
00,4c,00,53,00,52,00,50,00,43,00,00,00,62,00,72,00,6f,00,77,00,73,00,65,00,\
72,00,00,00,73,00,72,00,76,00,73,00,76,00,63,00,00,00,00,00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa]
"RestrictAnonymous"=dword:00000000

Save as winpe-xpsp2-fix.reg

Right click on this file and click merge. Then you may need to re-boot.

I suspect this is why my Internet sped up after using Reatogo. After
re-installing my conenction was fast even without this (don't know what I
had before that caused the problem).

You have been advised wrong. It is merely selfish to lock others off the web.

Jumbo,

Increase concurrent open connections (from 10 to 100)

* Open Regedit, navigate to:
HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet
Settings

* change the default settings for 'MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server' &
'MaxConnectionsPerServer' to 32 (Decimal), which is also 20 (Hexidecimal),
click OK.

* Exit Regedit

I received the following advice earlier in this NG from Drew Tognola but
when I attempted to make the changes I found that

HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\InternetSettings
does not contain either of the MaxConnections entries.

Does this mean that they have to be added or should I just make the changes
in HKEY_CURRENT_USER?

***********************************************************************************
Increase concurrent open connections (from 10 to 100)

* Open Regedit, navigate to:
HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet
Settings

* change the default settings for 'MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server' &
'MaxConnectionsPerServer' to 32 (Decimal), which is also 20 (Hexidecimal),
click OK.

navigate to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet
Settings

Repeat the above settings for this location

* Exit Regedit
***********************************************************************************

TIA

Jumbo
